YTL PowerSeraya begins construction of 600MW hydrogen-ready power plant
Once operational, it will power about 864,000 homes.
YTL PowerSeraya, a subsidiary of YTL Power International, has started construction on a 600MW hydrogen-ready Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) at its Pulau Seraya Power Station.
The $800m project is expected to be completed by December 2027.
“This initiative is not just a step towards cleaner energy but a catalyst for a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem in Singapore, reflecting our long-term commitment to the nation’s energy stability,” said John Ng, Group CEO at YTL PowerSeraya.
GE Vernova and SEPCOIII were appointed as consortium partners for the project.
The project is GE Vernova’s first hydrogen-ready CCGT in Singapore and will feature its advanced 9 High Efficiency Air Cooled (9HA.01) gas turbines, known globally for superior efficiency. These turbines are expected to reduce carbon emissions, supporting Singapore’s shift to low-emission power generation.
GE Vernova and SEPCOIII’s appointment follows their successful bid in the Energy Market Authority’s (EMA) first Request for Proposal under its new Centralised Process framework.
The plant will initially run on 50% hydrogen, with future capability to use 100%. Once operational, it will power about 864,000 homes, contributing to Singapore’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The groundbreaking event, held during Singapore International Energy Week, was attended by 100 industry professionals and graced by Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry.
