NLC's 2x500 MW CBP delayed by 18 months

The construction of a 2x500 MW capacity coal based plant in Tamil Nadu is likely to see an extension of a minimum of eighteen months.

 

As per the current status, the process of boiler erection has been delayed, due to lagged commencement of works by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. Also, erection of turbine also stands delayed.

Furthermore, the milestone that had been scheduled for up to July 2011 has not been achieved.

The coal based project is being implemented as a joint venture between Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited under the name of NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited. The 2x500 MW project has been envisaged with a total sanctioned expenditure of Rs 4909.5 crore, out of which, about 39 percent has been already incurred.
