NPC given heftier rate hike in off-grid areas

The Philippine's NPC was finally allowed to pass-on a heftier increase of US$0.02417 per kilowatt to to its SPUG  jurisdictions in Luzon.

For its off-grid service areas in the Visayas, the state-run power firm was given an even higher adjustment of US$.0273 per kWh; while Mindanao-Small Power Utilities Group cornered the biggest increase of US$0.0335 per kWh.

These cost adjustments are contained in a decision issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission last January 31.

Given its ailing financial condition, the off-grid areas being serviced by the state-managed firm warned of massive brownouts if it cannot immediately build up its cash hoard to cover its fuel purchases.

National Power Corporation is mandated to pursue the energization and ensure reliable power supply for SPUG areas.
