Siemens to supply turbines to Australian combined cycle power station

Siemens Energy will supply €150 million worth of turbines for the proposed 242MW Diamantina combined cycle power plant in Mount Isa in Queensland, Australia.

The turbines are two power islands each comprising one SST-400 steam turbine, two SGT-800 gas turbines and two heat-recovery steam generators.

The installed capacity of the plant will be sufficient to supply electricity to local mines operated by Xstrata and to people living in the region.

The first block of the Diamantina power plant is scheduled to commence full commercial operations in late 2013 and the second block will start up in early 2014.

Siemens Energy's industrial power business unit CEO Markus Tacke said the power station is a great example of ecofriendly power supply solutions for different industries worldwide.

The company will also be responsible for the overall plant design and will provide technical advisory services during theconstruction and commissioning phases of the project.
