China to finish building five nuclear reactors in 2017

It will also start constructing eight more.

According to the country's National Energy Administration, plans are in line to complete construction of five nuclear power reactors and start building eight more. These projects will all commence this year.

In NEA's Energy Work Guidance Opinion for 2017, construction of the Sanmen 1 and Haiyang 1 AP1000 units, Taishan 1 EPR, and the Fuqing 4 and Yangjiang 4 CPR-1000 units will be completed. These, along with "other projects," will boost the country's nuclear generating capacity by around 6.41GWe.

Preparation for the other eight units will also be carried out, which include units 3 and 4 of Sanmen, Ningde units 5 and 6, and two units each at new plants located in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province and Huizhou, Guangdong Province.

These eight projects, along with others in the pipeline, is slated to add 9.86GWe of nuclear generating capacity.
