POWERGRID receives LoI to acquire Bhadla-III Power Transmission

The project involves augmenting capacity at the existing Bhadla-III substation in Rajasthan.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of Power, has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for acquiring the Project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) "Bhadla-III Power Transmission Limited."

The acquisition is part of the establishment of a transmission system linked to the "Additional Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Bhadla-III PS" under the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-III Scheme (20 GW).

After a Tariff Based Competitive Bidding process, POWERGRID won the project, which involves augmenting capacity at the existing Bhadla-III substation in Rajasthan. The project includes installing 2x500 MVA 400/220 kV ICTs and 2x1500 MVA 765/400 kV ICTs, along with the corresponding 765 kV, 400 kV, and 220 kV bays.

Completion is expected within 18 months, with a specific target of commissioning the 1x1500 MVA, 765/400 kV (4th) ICT by 30 December.

Additionally, the acquisition also aligns with POWERGRID's ongoing efforts to boost India's green energy infrastructure, supporting the government's goal of 500 GW renewable energy by 2030.

As of 31 July, POWERGRID operates 278 substations and over 177,790 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, with a system availability rate of over 99.8%.
