Preformed Line Products expands in Asia Pacific

In its 2010 Outlook Update, the Asia Development Bank commented as follows on the Asia Pacific Region, “Despite the sluggish global recovery, the region’s growth and momentum has sustained itself in 2011, and prospects are bright for most regional economies.

GDP growth is now projected to rebound to 8.2% in 2010, revised up from the April forecast of 7.5%. The improved outlook is broad based with projections lifted in all subregions.”

The expected strong regional GDP growth is certainly a catalyst for ongoing investment in the electrical industry in particular, as the need for electricity across all sectors of the economy increases. One company that has really seized on the opportunity to be part of the strong growth in the electrical industry in Asia Pacific is Preformed Line Products (PLP).

The Regional Managing Director – Asia Pacific, Norman Windell commented that since late 2009 PLP has, through the acquisition of Dulmison and Auckland based Electropar, turned itself into a strong Asia Pacific regional manufacturer of electrical, renewable energy and communication products with expanded manufacturing capabilities and operations in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Australia, and New Zealand.

What does PLP have to offer?

PLP has an enviable reputation for providing innovative product and service solutions to the electrical power industry including solutions for supporting, protecting, terminating, and splicing power transmission and distribution lines. The PLP product range includes a comprehensive range of distribution power line fittings and accessories, transmission power line fittings, substation products, distribution transformers and an extensive range of ceramic and polymer insulators.

PLP offers a full array of communications products for OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) and ADSS (All Dielectric Self Supporting) fibre optic cables, which are commonly used to monitor and control power networks. Some innovative product solutions have included the COYOTE® family of fibre optic splice closures, organizers and trays, and the ARMADILLO ® family of copper splice closures and accessories. These products perform better, last longer and are easier to install, thus providing higher quality solutions that meet the rigorous demands of today’s modern communication networks. The reliability of our full line of fibre optic, copper, demarcation, bonding, strand and cable solutions, combined with our knowledgeable sales team and technical support services, make Preformed Line Products the connection you can count on.

PLP’s rack system enclosures division has design as well as manufacturing capabilities, aimed at producing special cabinets to suit particular projects and to satisfy the unique requirements of end users. Such cabinets include the 19” and 26” freestanding cabinets, datacenter cabinets (iQ series) and defense cabinets (Class C & B endorsed cabinets). The PLP renewable energy products include commercial and residential P.V. Solar systems and wind turbine generator kiosks. From supplying the base products for Solar applications or complete kit systems,
to design and integration from start to finish in turnkey solutions, PLP is a key provider of sustainable energy systems for the future. It also provides innovative mounting solutions for any PV solar application including commercial, industrial, government, utility and residential applications. Professional integrators and installers in the Asia Pacific region rely on our POWER-FAB® product line of high strength and easy to install mounting systems and enclosures.

More than products and services

To further provide its customers with solutions and services, PLP also offers product training to utilities and contractor personnel, as well as electrical and mechanical testing services. PLP ensures quality standards are met through NATA (ILACS recognized for mechanical testing) and ISO accreditation. Manufacturing processes are monitored, audited, tested and improved, based on statistical process control techniques using SPSS software. With almost 800 employees across the Asia Pacific, the company is well placed to offer a range of Engineering and Technical support capabilities in addition to its quality range of products.

PLP Indonesia will be exhibiting at Electric Power and Renewable Energy Indonesia 2011 in Jakarta which runs from the 21st – 24th September and will be focussing on 500Kv transmission products in addition to insulators, substation products, distribution transformers, fibre optic closures and rack system enclosures.
