Amazon to develop 420MW solar projects in India

These involve three projects in Rajasthan.

Amazon will be developing its first utility-scale scale renewable energy projects in India involving three solar farms in Rajasthan with a total capacity of 420 megawatts (MW).

In a statement, Amazon said these projects include a 210MW solar farm to be developed by ReNew Power, which is considered one of the largest solar corporate power purchase agreements by a tech firm in the country and the largest single business-to-business projects being developed by the energy firm.

The other projects are the 100MW farm to be developed by Amp Energy India, and the 110MW to be developed by Brookfield Renewable.

These projects can generate a to generate 1,076 gigawatt-hours  (GWh) of electricity annually and power around 360,000 average-sized households in New Delhi.

Aside from these, Amazon will also be deploying 23 solar rooftop projects in its fulfilment centres in 14 cities in India which would generate 4.09MW of electricity, bringing its rooftop projects to 41 with a total of 19.7MW capacity.

Globally, Amazon is adding 2.7GW of clean energy capacity with its 71 new projects, including its first renewable energy project in South America with a solar farm in Brazil, and its first solar farm in Poland. Once operational, its total renewable portfolio will generate 50,000GWh of electricity which can power 4.6 million US homes annually.
