Australia awards fund for Consumer Energy Resources Data Exchange

This will serve as a “digital spine” in simplifying CER integration.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) granted nearly $800,000 (A$1.2m) funding to support the development of a platform that will enable data exchange for consumer energy resources.

In a statement, ARENA said the fund will be provided to the Australian Energy Market Operator which partnered with AustNet to co-design the Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Data Exchange.

The program will develop a common digital infrastructure to allow information sharing, market access and coordination across the National Electricity Market.

“As an ever-growing share of our electricity comes from sources like rooftop solar, work needs to be done to properly integrate these resources into the electricity grid,” ARENA CEO Darren Miller said.

“This work will help maximise the value of consumer energy resources, encouraging investment and helping to drive the transition to renewable electricity,” he added.

AEMO will conduct a series of workshops to identify industry needs and requirements and look into industry perspectives on data governance and operating models for industry input in co-designing the CER Data Exchange.
