Azure Power commissions 90MW solar project in Assam

This is the largest solar project in Assam.

Azure Power has fully commissioned a 90-megawatt (MW) solar project in Assam in India, the largest project in the state.

In a statement, Azure Power said the project, with its capacity spread across the districts of Udalguri, Kamrup, Nagaon, and Cachar, was commissioned in phases, with the final capacity to be commissioned in Cachar.

Assam Power Distribution Company Limited will be supplied with the power generated from the solar project under a long term 25-year power purchase agreement at a tariff of 4.4¢ (INR3.34) per kilowatt-hour.

Azure Power CFO Pawan Kumar Agrawal said the project will help fulfil the vision of the Government of Assam “to transform Assam into a sustainably developed state by 2030.”

"In addition to meeting sustainability targets of the state, our project will also help in creating sustainable ecosystem by generating employment and revenue opportunities for local population," Pawan added.

The commissioning brings Azure Power’s operational capacity to over 2,900MW of high-performing renewable energy assets in India.
