Dongguan Ningzhou Plant to deliver 2.4 GW of power in China

It is powered by three 9HA.02 gas turbines.

GE Vernova Inc. has announced that the Dongguan Ningzhou combined cycle power plant has officially begun operations, set to deliver up to 2.4 gigawatts (GW) of electricity.

Powered by three 9HA.02 gas turbines, the plant will significantly boost the power supply in Guangdong province, contributing to China's ongoing transition from coal to natural gas.

This addition follows the recent start of the Huizhou power plant, which is already providing 1.34 GW to the grid. Together, the two plants are a critical part of China's efforts to reduce reliance on coal and support cleaner energy generation.

“Dongguan Ningzhou plant plays a significant role in supporting a lower-carbon and more sustainable power generation in the Guangdong province, north of Hong Kong in the Greater Bay Area,” said Xu Xin, Gas Power Services China ITR Leader, GE Vernova.

“This plant will help boost the megapolis’ transition from coal to gas power generation to lower emissions,” he added.

GE Vernova’s turbines are designed to cut carbon emissions by up to 60% compared to coal plants of similar size, with future capability to burn up to 100% hydrogen, further driving the shift towards cleaner energy.
