HD Renewable Energy bags 300 MW BESS projects in Japan
These will be located in five sites.
HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) has secured 300 megawatts (MW) of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Japan’s latest round of Long-Term Decarbonisation Power Source Auction.
In a statement, HDRE said the five projects are located across Aomori, Fukushima, and Hokkaido, with the largest nearing 100 MW. All projects are eligible for 20-year government-backed capacity payments.
This development follows the securing of two BESS projects totalling 73 MW in Mie and Fukuoka prefectures last year. Both are scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
HDRE targets over 3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy development in Japan, including 400 MW of solar and 2.6 GW of BESS.
