IPCL and ES2 collaborate for pilot thermal energy storage project

The two companies launched a thermal storage unit with a 250 KWh capacity.

Indian Power Corporation Limited (IPCL) and ES2 Power signed an agreement to launch the 250-kilowatt-hour pilot thermal energy storage in the country.

In a statement, ES2 said this partnership will help thermal power assents shift to clean energy storage facilities, adding that the technology could be deployed in the near term.

“Long Duration Energy Storage System (LDESS) is the need of the hour due to rapidly growing renewable energy generation in the overall energy mix and this solution is the perfect match,” said Anand K Pandey, Head of Renewables and New Business, India Power Corporation Limited.

“This technology will also provide a solution for meeting the requirement of flexibilization of thermal power plants. Through this pilot project in India we will showcase the real-time operation of the technology for easy and confident decision-making by all the stakeholders,” Pandey added.

The two parties will work together with major power firms in identifying deployment opportunities for the technology for editing plants and those that are being phased out.
