
JSW Energy and UPPCL ink 1,500 MW pumped hydro storage deal
This will run for 40 years.
JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has signed a deal for 1,500 megawatts / 12,000 megawatt-hours of pumped hydro energy storage.
In a disclosure, JSW Energy said the Pumped Hydro Storage Power Procurement Agreement was signed with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. The agreement is for supply of energy storage capacity for 40 years where the company will receive a fixed capacity charge of INR 77.2 lakhs per MW per annum.
The project, located at Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, will be capable of a scheduled discharge of 8 hours (with maximum continuous 6 hours) per day. It is expected to be commissioned in next 6 years.
Following this deal, JSW Energy’s total locked-in energy storage capacity currently stands at 28.3 gigawatt-hours (GWh), which includes 26.4 GWh of pumped storage projects.
The company eyes for 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030.
