Lightsource bp taps Hithium for Woolooga BESS project
This will be Australia’s first project that will use 5MWh energy storage containers.
Lightsource bp has partnered with Hithium for 640 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage capacity for the Woolooga battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Queensland.
In a statement, Hithium said this will be the first project to be constructed using 5 MWh energy storage containers in Australia with a 25 year warranty.
Hithium, meanwhile, is also partnering with INTEC Energy Solutions to provide the Woolooga BESS Stage 1 project's operation and maintenance services.
The Woolooga BESS project has a total energy storage capacity of 222 megawatt /640MWh, and 128 units of 5MWh BESS containers based on Hithium's specialized prismatic 314Ah cells.
“Unlike traditional power supply projects, this project prioritizes optimizing grid load and enhancing the role of energy storage systems in renewable energy generation, which is essential for grid flexibility and renewable energy integration,” Hithium said.
