Marinus Link bags environmental approval
This means the project can push through with acceptable environmental effects.
The government of Victoria has granted environmental approval to the 750 megawatt (MW) Marinus Link.
In a statement, Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL) said authorities gave their positive assessment of the project under the Environment Effects Act 1978.
The assessment “concludes that the project can proceed with acceptable environmental effects, provided recommended refinements to environmental management are adopted.”
The Marinus Link project proposes a 1,500 MW capacity underground and subsea electricity connector between Tasmania and Victoria, comprising 2 x 750 MW cables.
Its Victorian section is located from the 3 nautical mile limit of Victorian coastal waters to the greater Hazelwood area in the Latrobe Valley.
