Meenakshi Energy operationalises 1,000 MW thermal plant

Two units of 150 MW were earlier operationalised.

Meenakshi Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, has announced the full operationalisation of its 1,000 megawatt (MW) thermal power plant.

In a statement, Meenakshi Energy said the plant comprises two units of 350 MW and two units of 150 MW, which were stabilised and operationalised earlier this year.

This development also marks Meenakshi Energy’s full restoration of the plant.

“With thermal projects accounting for over 70% of India’s electricity, they remain the backbone of the country’s energy security, meeting peak demand, ensuring fuel availability, and providing stable baseload generation,” said Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO- Power, Vedanta Ltd.

“This comeback reinforces our commitment to meeting India’s growing energy needs and marks a defining chapter in our journey to become the country’s most efficient and sustainability-driven power producer,” he added.

Meenakshi Energy fully relies on saline water, treated and used exclusively for internal industrial processes. This eliminates dependence on freshwater resources, preserving supplies for agriculture and local communities, and aligns with India’s water-security goals.

The plant has also implemented a water recovery system from the ash dyke, further conserving resources and enhancing plant sustainability.

Vedanta Power is amongst India’s largest private power producers with 4,780 MW installed capacity.
