Neoen grows Queensland battery capacity to 270 MW/540 MWh

It is expected to start operations in the Australian summer of 2024/25.

France-based renewable energy producer Neoen expanded the capacity of its Western Down Battery in Queensland, Australia to reach 270 megawatts (MW)/540 MW-hours.

In a statement, Neoen said the expansion of the facility’s capacity, which is initially planned at 200 MW/ 400 MWh, will be carried out by Tesla and construction contractor UGL, who started the initial stage construction of the project in January.

The facility located next to Neoen’s Western Downs Green Power Hub which includes a 460 MW-peak solar farm is targeted to start operating in the Australian summer of 2024/25.

The project, composed of Tesla Megapack 2XL units, will be connected to the Western Downs substation, with the network operator Powerlink delivering the connection works.
