NSW approves grid access to 3.56 GW of renewable projects
This will benefit over 1.5 million homes annually.
Four renewable energy projects that have a total generation capacity of 3.56 gigawatts have been granted grid access in the South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
In a statement, the government of New South Wales said the projects that secured grid access are Origin Energy’s 1,460 megawatt (MW) Yanco Delta wind farm, Spark Renewables’ 1,007 MW Dinawan Energy Hub, Someva’s 831.2 MW Pottinger Energy Park, and BayWA’s 262.3 MW Bullawah Wind Farm.
These projects include more than 700 MW of battery storage, capable of powering up to 300,000 households during peak demand.
“These projects will help ensure NSW has enough renewable energy generation and storage when coal-fired power stations retire. They also give certainty to host-communities, who will directly benefit from the fees paid by these companies to connect to the REZ,” said Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe.
The first projects are expected to come online from 2027 to 2030.
