NSW gov’t OKs Humelink transmission project
It now awaits Commonwealth’s final approval.
New South Wales (NSW) has approved the $4.8b HumeLink transmission project, which is one of the largest transmission facilities to be approved in the Australian state.
In a statement, the NSW Government said the project will provide a 365 kilometre renewable energy infrastructure spine across the southern portion of the state and directly support the delivery of more clean energy.
Amongst the conditions of approval were visual impact, biodiversity, transport, rehabilitation, and hours of operation.
Once connected to the network, the HumeLink project will unlock the Snowy Hydro Scheme expansion project, Snowy 2.0, and provide an additional 2,200 megawatts of on-demand energy into the grid.
The HumeLink transmission project is now up for Commonwealth Government approval, with construction slated to begin in late 2024 and conclude around 2027.
