RWE to develop 495 MW offshore wind project in South Korea
It secured its first exclusive development rights for offshore wind in the country.
RWE secured an Electricity Business Licence from the Korean Government to develop the 495-megawatt Seohae offshore wind project.
In a statement, the company said this is the company’s first exclusive development rights for offshore wind in the country since its opening in Soeul in 2021.
The project will be situated around 45 kilometres off the coast of Taean County in Chungcheonam Province.

“This first Electricity Business Licence is a key milestone in the further development of our Seohae offshore wind project. As RWE, we are dedicated to delivering clean, sustainable renewable energy and helping to achieve Korea’s renewable energy targets,” said RWE Offshore Wind CEO Sven Utermöhlen.
The next step for the project development is collaborating with local suppliers to continue Engineering and Environmental Impact Assessment studies.
RWE will also have to work with the local county and the Korea Electric Power Corporation for a grid connection deal.
