SRE, MWE to develop 840-MW wind farm in South Korea
This will be a bottom-fixed offshore wind project.
Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) marks its entry into the South Korean market after forming the Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, a joint venture with Moondo Wind Energy (MWE) that will develop an 840-megawatt offshore wind project in the South Sea of Korea.
In a statement, SRE said the new bottom-fixed offshore wind project has already secured an Electricity Business License (EBL) from the South Korean government. It will be located in the waters around Geomundo Island, Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do Province, at the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula.
“We are keen to share our expertise and experience with neighbouring markets and look forward to collaborating with our local partners, leveraging their deep local insights as we strive toward achieving net-zero emissions,” said Lucas Lin, chairperson of SRE.
“SRE's advanced technology and extensive experience in Taiwan will ensure the successful implementation of the Moondo Offshore Wind Energy, making a significant contribution to Korea's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve RE-100,” said Honglyol Song, CEO of MWE.
SRE further announced the establishment of a new office in central Seoul. This move aims to assemble a team of local and international experts dedicated to offshore wind, driving the region's energy transition.
