TotalEnergies to invest in 1 GW Kazakh wind project

It is the largest wind energy project in Kazakhstan.

Paris-based Paris energy firm TotalEnergies signed an Agreement on Investment with Kazakhstan government to commit around $1.4b for the company’s onshore wind project in the Central Asian nation.

In a nation, TotalEnergies said its Mirny project will be composed of 160 turbines along with a 600 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage system.

The project, which can supply power to over one million people and avoid the emission of 3.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, is the largest wind energy project in Kazakhstan.

The agreement was signed during the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
