Two new wind farms in Victoria start generating electricity

These can power over 200,000 homes.

Two new wind projects, including one of the largest in Victoria, have gone online and started generating energy for 208,000 households across the Australian state.

In a statement, the government said the Ryan Corner Wind Farm, one of the largest wind farms in the state, has 52 turbines producing 218 megawatts (MW) that can power 140,000 homes. The Hawkesdale Wind Farm, meanwhile, has 23 turbines which can produce 97 MW of electricity, enough to power 67,000 homes.

The Allan Labor Government said it is on track to reach its target of 40% renewable energy generation by 2025. In October, renewables met 49% of the state’s total monthly electricity generation, with wind energy providing about 23% of the monthly production.

“With more than 4.7 gigawatts of wind energy operating across 42 projects, and a further nine either under construction or approved for construction, we have created the foundations that secures Victoria’s energy future,” said Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio.

“Ryan Corner Wind Farm and Hawkesdale Wind Farm will strengthen our grid with more reliable, renewable and affordable energy while helping us to take the critical action necessary to limit climate change,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Action Sheena Watt.
