UAE may fall short of reaching its 32% clean capacity target by 2030
The country is expected to announce new RE power tenders to support the target.
The United Arab Emirates is projected to reach a clean energy capacity of 14.7 gigawatts (GW) or 27% of its total energy mix by 2030, failing to meet its goal of 32% for the period, according to a report by BMI.
Under the revised National Energy strategy, the country aims to reach 14.2 GW to 19.8 GW of clean power, raising the share of clean power in the total capacity to 32% by 2030, and 38% by 2035.
The government will be allotting $41b to $54b on renewable power over the next seven years to boost its target.

“The funding and the new target pose a considerable upside risk to the UAE’s renewables growth,” BMI said.
“In order to match targets, we anticipate that UAE will announce new renewable power auctions/tenders over the coming months to boost the market’s renewable capacity to reach the new target,” it added.
