Western Australia launches tenders for 1.6 GW of renewable generation
This will benefit 900,000 homes.
Western Australia has opened tenders for renewable energy generation and dispatchable capacity to the wholesale electricity market.
According to authorities, the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tenders 5 and 6 in the Western Australia Wholesale Electricity Market will add 1.6 gigawatts (GW) of renewable generation backed up by 2.4 gigawatt-hours of clean dispatchable capacity.
This is enough energy to power more than 900,000 homes each year and enough storage to cover the peak electricity needs of 550,000 households for four hours.
Both tenders officially opened on 26 August, and proponents will have ten weeks to submit their bids under the new, streamlined CIS process.
The latest tenders follow the previous rounds, which have resulted in 19 executed agreements to date, providing 5.85 GW of capacity nationally.
