Czech companies keen on Indian power sector

Czech companies have expressed interest to participate in the fast-growing Indian power sector.

They are hoping to provide equipment and technologies for upcoming plants. Various issues in this regard were discussed when Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal met a high-level delegation from Czech Republic.

The Czech delegation, of about 60 members, was led by its Minister for Industry and Trade Martin Kocurek. During the discussions, the Czech representatives expressed their interest to be part of the Indian power sector, mainly in offering technological expertise as well as equipment for projects.

Venugopal apprised the delegation of the opportunities available in the power sector, especially those related to manufacturing of main plant and balance of plant equipment. There is also a possibility of setting up a working group comprising Indian government officials, Czech representatives and others, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy sector, a Power Ministry official said.

“He also apprised them of the credible and cost effective testing & certification facilities available in India which can be accessed by foreign electrical equipment manufacturers,” according to the release.Some of the power plants in the country are still understood to be using equipment supplied by Czech companies.

India has embarked on massive capacity addition plans in the power sector, which is expected to require about US $300- US $400 billion investment during the 12th Five-Year Plan from 2012 to 2017.
