Vietnam saves 667.38 million kWh in first half

The energy saving results of Vietnam's power corporations in the first six months of 2011 reached 667.38 million kWh, 1.3% of commercial electricity.

Specifically, Northern Power Corporation saved 142,127,979 kWh, 1.35% of commercial electricity; Central Power Corporation reached 208,125,000 kWh, 1.3% of commercial electricity; Southern Power Corporation reached 58,577,064 kWh, 1.36%of commercial electricity; Hanoi Power Corporation reached 49.93 million kWh, 1.12% of commercial electricity; HCM City Hanoi Power Corporation reached 198.6 million kWh, 1.48% of commercial electricity.

According to the Ministry Industry and Trade, at the beginning of 2011, the electricity supply faced many difficulties because most of hydropower reservoirs across the country had not reached the required volume of water; some thermal power plants did not operate stably. Electricity output was estimated to lack about 3 billion kWh. To ensure power supply for the economy and daily life of the people at the highest level, right at the beginning of 2011 the Prime Minister issued Directive No 171/CT 01 dated Jan 26th 2011 on strengthening the implementation of energy saving, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 0152/QD-BCT approving the plan of power supply and power system operation in 2011 as a legal basis for managing power supply in six months of the dry season in 2011.

Besides, the enacted Law on energy efficiency and conservation and Decree No. 21/2011/ND-CP of the Government are the necessary legal documents to implement energy using activities in general and power using in particular.
