xMinistry Mulls Including Wind, Thermal Energy Into Re Mix Energy Fit System

he Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry is considering including wind and thermal energy into the renewable energy mix of feed-in-tariff (FIT) system.

The two energy sources are currently not incorporated in the FIT system due to lack of sufficient sources.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui said new technologies have enabled energy to be generated even with lesser capacity of sources such as slower wind.

"We are still studying it. If it is applicable for Malaysia to use wind turbine, then why not," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a technology transfer agreement for the Maglev Turbine System between China-based Shenzen Timar Scenery Energy Technology Co Ltd and Timar Wind Solar Energy Sdn Bhd.

Chin said generating electricity using wind is more cost effective as it is cheaper than solar electricity generation.
