India’s power ministry content with capacity addition

India’s Ministry of Power is content that the final 11th Plan capacity addition is likely to be 250 per cent of that actually achieved in the 10th Plan.

It considers it a very big achievement.

The target of 78,000 MW-worth of fresh capacity addition for the 11th Plan was scaled down, due to non-performance, to 62,000 MW.

The ministry opined that such unrealistic target-setting should persist because it apparently facilitates a large number of power projects to benefit at least in the subsequent Five Year Plan.
