Indian private project developers not adequately monitored
An institutionalized mechanism to monitor the progress of implementation of power projects by private developers should be in place. This was suggested by former power secretary and a Member in the Advisory Group to the Ministry of Power, R V Shahi.
Shahi has pointed out that such an apparatus is required, since it has been found that private entities are not very diligent in submitting project data to the Central Electricity Authority, the power ministry‘s data repository.
As the major chunk of capacity addition is bequeathed to the private sector, the lack of sufficient oversight is worrying, claims the former secretary.
