China's newly installed wind capacity falls
Overcapacity and oversupply have dampened the growth of China’s wind power industry.
China's newly installed wind power capacity slid to 17.6 GW in 2011, 6.9% lower than the 18.9 GW installed in 2010, according to the China 2011 Wind Power Installed Capacity Statistics.
China’s cumulative installed wind power capacity in 2011 stood at 62.4 GW for an annual growth rate of 39%.
Among wind turbine makers, China’s Sinovel Wind Group Company took 21% of the market followed by another Chinese firm, Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Company with a 20% market share.
Goldwind installed 20% of newly installed wind power capacity in 2011. Sinovel installed 16.7% and China Guodian Corporation, 16.1%.
Goldwind exported 124 wind turbines in 2011 with a combined capacity of 189 MW while Sinovel only exported six units.
The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region installed 3.74 GW, the largest capacity among China’s provinces. Hebei, Liaoning, Shandong, Heilongjiang and Ningxia provinces installed a combined 2 GW.
