China is world's number 1 in wind, hydropower capacity

China's wind power capacity grew by more than 60 percent in the past decade.

According to Liu Zhenya, president of the China Electricity Council, its cumulative total is now 118 times more than that of 10 years ago.

This secured the country's position as the world's top wind energy provider.

China's installed capacities for hydropower is also the world's largest.

Liu said that China also witnessed soaring growth in other clean energy sectors in the same period. Its solar photovoltaic power capacity surged by more than 50 percent each year.

CEC also said that China should construct a strong and smart power grid to back up the development of clean energy in the country.
