Alstom has won a contract for the supply of equipment to a new hydroelectric dam in China.

The contract, worth approximately US$70.16 million and awarded to Alstom by Jiangxi Province Xiajiang Water Control Project Headquarters, involves the supply of five 40 MW bulb turbine and generator units.

The new Xiajiang hydropower station is currently under construction on the Ganjiang river, 160km from Nanchang city in Jiangxi Province. The plant is due to be operational in summer 2013.

The equipment for the project will be manufactured and supplied by Alstom Hydro China Co. Ltd Alstom’s new manufacturing site at Tianjin.

“This latest contract is a sign of the healthy growth of the Chinese hydroelectricity market,” said Anders Maltesen, General Manager of Alstom Hydro China. “It also proves once again that Alstom, as the market leader in this industry, is a household name that Chinese utilities know they can rely on for the excellence and reliability of our machines.”
