CRUL, IRENA partner to promote renewable energy research

The research will focus on bioenergy, geothermal, and hydroelectric amongst others.

The Lazio Region Universities Coordination Committee (CRUL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to develop joint research on boosting renewable energy.

The joint research is expected to focus on bioenergy, geothermal, hydroelectric, ocean, solar, and wind energy.

This is in line with the pursuit of sustainable development, access to energy, energy security, economic growth, and low-carbon prosperity.

“A knowledge ecosystem that advances research and creates skilled human workforce is crucial to scale up renewable energy deployment swiftly and sustainably,” IRENA Director-General, Francesco La Camera, said.

Under the MoU, IRENA and CRUL are expected to work closely on studying the use of renewable energy sources in different territorial contexts as well as the research on hydrogen and multi-energy systems.

It also provided that the IRENA and CRUL will seeks to promote higher education in the field of renewable energy, formulate common policy advice in line with speeding up the expansion of clean energy amongst others.

“The memorandum represents the shared path undertaken towards energy transition, as the only goal to be achieved, favouring the transfer of technology for the well-being of the planet and the community", Stefano Ubertini, President of CRUL, said.
