JERA starts operations for Ishikari Bay offshore wind farm

It is the largest commercial wind farm in Japan, and the first to use 8,000 kW wind turbines.

JERA Co., Inc. (JERA), with the cooperation of Green Power Investment Corporation (GPI), has begun operations for the Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm, the largest commercial wind farm in Japan.

The wind farm is also the first facility in Japan to utilise large 8,000 kilowatt (kW) wind turbines through Green Power Ishikari GK, a special-purpose corporation.

Situated in the Ishikari Bay New Port over Hokkaido, the wind farm is comprised of 14 wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, each having a potential output of 8,000 kW for a total capacity of 112,000 kW.
