Masdar and SOCAR break ground for Azerbaijan’s 1 GW renewable energy projects

This involves two solar projects and one wind farm.

Clean energy firm Masdar and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan held a groundbreaking ceremony for the solar and wind projects in Azerbaijan with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt, marking the start of the project’s construction.

In a statement, Masdar said the three groundbreakings include the 445-megawatt (MW) Bilasuvar solar photovoltaic (PV) project, 315 MW Neftchala Solar PV Project, and the 240 MW Absheron-Garadagh Onshore Wind Project.

Investment deals were achieved for the projects in 2023, followed by the signing of power purchase agreements, transmission connection deals, and land lease agreements.

In October last year, Masdar completed te 230 MW Garadagh solar plant which is the country’s first foreign investment-based independent solar power project.
