GAIL, RVUNL ink deal to build 1 GW solar and wind projects

They will also improve operations of RVUNL's gas-based power plants.

GAIL (India) Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to promote clean energy in Rajasthan by setting up around 1,000 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind power projects and optimising the operations of the latter’s gas-based power plants.

In a statement, GAIL said the parties “shall explore the possibility of transferring RVUNL's gas-based power plant located in Dholpur and Ramgarh, Rajasthan to a proposed Joint Venture Company (JVC) between GAIL & RVUNL.”

“Further, both the parties will work together towards setting up of around 1,000 MW of solar and wind projects in suitable land parcels, thus creating an opportunity for Round the Clock (RTC) power,” it added.

Detailed due diligence / feasibility studies for each project will be conducted to establish their techno-commercial viability before forming JVC.

The agreement was signed by Devendra Shringi, chairman and managing director of RVUNL, and Sumit Kishore, executive director (Business Development and Exploration & Production), GAIL.
