Black & Veatch delivers the Philippines’ first megawatt-scale floating solar facility

Powering firsts in the Philippines – from LNG to renewables and more

The Philippines’ first major liquified natural gas (LNG)-to-power project is a landmark development for Black & Veatch and its clients, delivering 1.3 gigawatts (GW) that can meet nearly10 percent of the demand on the Luzon grid. Delivered with safety and at scale, the project began during the pandemic and was completed on schedule with nearly 20 million safe man-hours. 

The company has also commissioned the country’s first megawatt-scale floating solar power facility, drawing on global expertise and more than five decades of local experience to deliver against national renewable energy goals.

Whilst Black & Veatch is widely recognised as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, the company’s services in the Philippines span the full lifecycle service offerings of infrastructure projects. Through the years, it has supported clients on successful projects of different sizes in the Philippines — from rapid, strategic engagements and complex engineering feasibility studies to large scale, multi-year and multi-billion-dollar design, engineering and construction projects.

“In addition to EPC services, we provide advisory services during the planning and development stage through to owner’s engineer (OE) and project management consultancy (PMC),” said Murali Mohan Udayagiri, director of services projects, Asia Pacific at Black & Veatch.

“By engaging with clients early, we explore alternative project delivery models based on their specific needs. This includes providing engineering, procurement and construction management services (EPCM), which more deeply engage clients in project development, help them advance projects to construction faster than traditional models and present alternative procurement pathways,” Murali added. 

Black & Veatch lifecycle services support early-stage strategic planning with market assessments and feasibility studies, helping clients determine the viability, strategic direction and potential impact of their projects. The company then offers consultancy to construction services, including detailed designs of the plant and its construction.

Recently, more businesses have asked Black & Veatch for operations and maintenance (O&M) support to maximise the performance and sustainability of their assets through all lifecycle stages. Black & Veatch offers intelligent physical and digital asset management, supporting assets through to end-of-life decommissioning and demolition.
