Coal shortage causes power disruptions in China

Central and northern China are now experiencing power cuts and rationing as coal supplies fall short. There is also energy demand on account of extreme cold.

China's State Grid announced on its website the winter storm is causing transport disruptions that have hindered coal deliveries.

Some coal suppliers reportedly are holding back on shipments to utilities because contract prices for coal were below market prices.
