Shanghai to liberalise 10% of its power market

It eyes to fully open power trading after 2020.

The city of Shanghai (China) intends to open 10% of its electricity market for trade by the end of 2017, according to Enerdata. This move is expected to push forward reform of its power system and enhance the liberalisation of the power sector.

The city also set a 30% target of its power market for open trade by the end of 2019 and aims to fully open power trading to the market after 2020.

"The power trade is scheduled to take place over a local platform, with long-term power supply contracts on offer and initially open for unilateral trade only among power generators. Power companies will be encouraged to trade directly with commercial and residential consumers," Enerdata said.
