Andhra Pradesh seeks power boost from coal-fired plant

This was one of the matters discussed during a recent meeting by authorities.

Indian authorities have reviewed the power sector, urban development, and housing in Andhra Pradesh, wherein the state requested for allocation from the proposed thermal power plant by Coal India Limited.

In a statement, the Ministry of Power said that the state also requested for coal linkage from Talcher mines under SHAKTI policy, and for Thermal power Station in Srikakulam. It also sought support for renovation and modernisation of older Thermal Units, support under Viability Gap Funding Scheme for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and for allocation of concessional coal under existing Fuel Supply agreement between SEIL and MCL.

The meeting was led by Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal who also emphasised the role of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in improving the electricity distribution sector and in strengthening distribution infrastructure and advised the State to expeditiously implement the works sanctioned under RDSS.

He advised the state to take up smart metering works in a phased manner. He also assured support on issues related to RDSS, BESS, and coal linkage issues related to thermal power plants.
