India targets 22.4 GW of solar capacity in 2024
Approximately 3.6 GW of new capacity is projected for the wind sector.
India is set to add 22.4 GW of solar capacity in 2024, according to JMK Research. This includes 17 GW from utility-scale projects, 4 GW from rooftop solar installations, and 1.4 GW from off-grid systems
In the wind sector, about 3.6 GW of new capacity is projected for the same period.
From January to September 2024, India added 13.2 GW of utility-scale solar capacity, a 160.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
During this time, rooftop solar capacity also grew by 7.3%, reaching 3.2 GW. Meanwhile, the wind sector saw a more modest but steady growth of 14.8%, with 2.6 GW of new capacity added in the first nine months of 2024.
In Q3 2024, a total of 7,430 MW of renewable energy capacity was auctioned, with 7,356 MW allocated to developers, including JSW Energy, Avaada, Essar Renewables, and SAEL Industries.
