Jiangxi is China’s first inland nuclear plant site
Fourth-generation plant to rise at Ruijin.
The plant is the first nuclear power plant project that will be built in China's inland areas following the resumption of nuclear power plant construction on Oct. 24, 2012. The Jiangxi project is scheduled for inauguration in late 2018.
The project, however, will remain in its preparatory stages in the coming years. The Standing Committee of the State Council said it will not build new inland nuclear power plants during the period of the 12th five-year national development plan that ends in 2015.
A subsidiary of state-owned China Nuclear Engineering signed a strategic cooperative framework agreement with the Ruijin city government early this month. The fourth-generation nuclear power plant will feature a high temperature, patented gas-cooled reactor, along with the adjacent facilities.
The inland project comes on the heels of a number of nuclear power plant projects in coastal areas. These include second-phase engineering for the Tianwan nuclear power plant in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province.
