Bangladesh to introduce remote metering

The Bangladesh Power Development Board will soon be able to monitor, reading, measurement and billing of the High Tension consumers’ meters from a central station.

Energy audit will also be easier.

This is after it introduces the Remote Metering and Billing system.

The system willprevent HT consumers as well as the meter readers to commit meter tempering and evade payment of the real electricity bills.

Project Director Engr. Bikash Dewan said they would set up modem device with each of the HT consumers’ meter.

“The remote metering will help us to monitor the meter round the clock and to measure how much electricity is being consumed by the HT consumer.

“Besides, we could detect any technical fault of the meter just after arise,” he added, saying the GPRS, GSM or PLC communication technology would be used to make function the remote metering system.

Around 1,400 HT consumers of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazaar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban district will be brought under the system, he added.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will bear the total expenditure of the project.

Secretary of PDB Mohammad Azizul Islam has invited international tender for the remote metering project titled ‘Supply, Installation and Commissioning of HT Consumer Remote Metering Unit with Meter Data Management and Billing on Turnkey basis under Greater Chittagong Power Distribution Project-SCADA Rehabilitation’.

PDB earlier implemented the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition in the load management and power supply system.
