Dam concreting for Nagarjuna Sagar HEP delays

APGENCO is struggling to resolve the contractual issue with dam contractor, Maytas-SNC JV, to avoid further delay in commissioning its 50 MW Nagarjuna Sagar hydroelectric project.

It has become impossible for APGENCO or Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited to commence with the unit's commercial operations by March 2012.

Currently, for blocks 14 and 15, the concreting work has been completed till the foundation level whereas no work has been started in blocks 11 and 12. Furthermore, with an existing balance of approximately 50,000 cubic metres, the right bank work has been pushed to the next fiscal year, an extension of more than 5 months.

On the brighter side, the power house and hydro mechanical works have made significant progress. The walls and control block have already been built for unit-1 and concreting for the unit is scheduled to be completed by end if this month. The target for unit-2 concreting has been revised to November this year.

With respect to electro mechanical works, up-to spiral erection has concluded in one unit and is nearing completion in the other unit. The boxing-up of both units, initially envisaged to be finished by December this year, cannot be met by the company.
