Investment board approves cost estimate for THDC's 1000 MW PSP
The Public Investment Board have accorded its investment approval forTHDC's 1000 MW Tehri pumped storage plant at an estimated cost of Rs 2978.86 crore at April 2010 price levels.
THDC is now awaiting the approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
In an effort to facilitate the implementation of the project, major activities such as drilling and drifting in the power house and tail race tunnel areas are already in progress.
This project, comprising of four reversible pump turbine units, of 250 MW, each, would involve construction of an underground machine hall on the left bank of river Bhagirathi. The Tehri Dam reservoir shall function as the upper reservoir and the Koteshwar reservoir as the lower balancing reservoir for the project. On completion, the project, which is a part of the 2400 MW Tehri Hydro power complex, is envisaged to have an annual generation of 1,377 million units.
