Australia invests $46m in Townsville Region Hydrogen Hub

The project will start construction in 2025 and will be completed in 2026.

Australia is providing up to $46m (A$70m) in investment in the development of the Townsville Region Hydrogen Hub in north Queensland to be received by Edify Energy.

In a statement, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said the development of the Hub will be led by Edify and its partners who will develop 17.6 megawatts of demonstration production facility with integrated renewable energy generation.

The hub, which is expected to start commercial operations in 2027, will generate 800 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, boosting domestic supply to around 3,000 tonnes with a view of increasing to 150,000 tonnes yearly for export.

The project is also expected to create at least 200 direct job opportunities.

Other hubs with announced funding include Kwinana, the Hunter, Gladstone, Bell Bay, and Port Bonython.
