Idemitsu commences full operation of 5 MW solar farm at Boggabri mine

Following this development, the company is set to integrate a 12.6 MWh vanadium flow battery.

Idemitsu Australia has commenced full operation of its 5-megawatt solar farm at the Boggabri Coal Mine.

In a statement, the company said this partially replaces the mine’s grid electricity usage.

The project was commissioned in late September 2025. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 5,000 tonnes in its first year of operation.

The next phase of the project, following the solar farm completion, will involve the integration of a 12.6 MWh vanadium flow battery (VFB), which has been approved for installation.

Once completed in late 2026, the VFB will be the largest of its kind in Australia, providing up to 6.3 hours of energy storage.
