JSW Energy synchronises unit 2 of Utkal thermal plant

This boosts its operating thermal capacity to over 3 GW.

JSW Energy (Utkal) Limited, a subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has announced that it successfully synchronised Unit-2 of the Utkal Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 350 megawatts (MW).

Following the acquisition of the plant under NCLT proceedings in December 2022, JSW Energy said it has fully revived and synchronised the entire 700 MW capacity at the Utkal plant in approximately 24 months.

Located at Jharsuguda district of Odisha, the plant runs on domestic coal and currently is not tied-up under long-term power purchase agreement.

JSW Energy’s locked-in thermal capacity so far stands at 7,458 MW. With the commissioning of Utkal’s Unit-2, the company’s operating capacity will increase to 3,858 MW.
